WHO WE ARE?

A national organization of engineers dedicated to Dr. Ambedkar's vision

Our Identity

BANAE is an organisation of engineers of all disciplines from all states all over India who believes in the ideology and philosophy of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and constitutional principles of liberty, equality, fraternity and Justice.

The idea of establishing a nationwide organization of Ambedkarite engineers "BANAE" was mooted by Er B.D. Kardam, Chief Engineer, Central Railway and Er Anant Upasham, Consulting Engineer in the state level conference of Engineers. Others who supported the idea were Er. Devendra Walde, Er Ramesh Rangari, Er S. A. Nandeshwar, Er Nagsen Sonare, Er S. S. Ramteke, Er P. P. Aaglawe, Er V. S. Narnawre, Er B. T. Khandagale, Er S. S. Mane, Er P. G. Gadekar and several other Ambedkarite engineers.

The State conference of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Engineers Association (BAEA) was held at Nagpur in 1987 which was attended by a large number of engineers from all over Maharashtra. In the convention a 11 member Committee was constituted under the chairmanship of Er B D Kardam. The committee held about 14 meetings for drafting aims, objectives, rules and regulations. Thus a student organization which started in 1969 by a VRCE student Er Devendra Walde, was transformed as a National organization of professional engineers and engineering students.

After discussion and deliberations of more than a year to frame bylaws of BANAE, the association was registered on 01/08/1988 under the Societies Registration Act -1860 as well as Bombay Public Trust Act- 1950.

WHAT WE DO?

Our initiatives and achievements for the engineering community

Our work at a glance

  • Fighting discrimination: Since formation BANAE and erstwhile BAEA have been fighting against discrimination and humiliation of students from marginalized sections by teachers and staff of Universities/Engineering Colleges/IITs/Polytechnics/ITIs etc.
  • Instilling confidence & financial aid: BANAE successfully instilled confidence among students by personally visiting Engineering Colleges, Polytechnics and IIT in Mumbai, meeting authorities, providing financial support, and saving many careers. Members helped students secure employment in government as well private sector through personal and professional contacts. Instrumental in filling up the backlog of posts in engineering colleges and government organizations.
  • Entrepreneurship & higher education: BANAE always supported young entrepreneurs and provided avenues and business opportunities. Moreover, many students aspiring for higher education abroad were provided with guidance and financial support.
  • Hostel accommodation: Association always helped students in getting hostel accommodation in govt. hostels, which provides best options to those whose parents income is BPL. BANAE pursued with college and university authorities for providing hostel accommodation to students within the campus.
  • Book bank & scholarships: BANAE made sure that SC/ST students are given the facility of Book-Bank as per Govt. directives. BANAE helped students getting GOI post-matric scholarships regularly and timely by following up with college authorities and Social Welfare Dept. officials.
  • Landmark hostel GR revision (2001): BANAE played a pivotal role in the revision of Govt. Hostel GR (1987) which was not revised over a long period of 27 years. After consistent follow-up and representations, the GR was revised in 2001 with significant enhancement in scholarship and excellent facilities in all hostels of boys and girls of SC‑ST communities. This was made possible by Shri. Ratnakar Gaikwad (Chief Secretary) and Shri. Dinesh Waghmare (Secretary, Social Justice). The revised facilities became a model for other states all over India. Major achievement
  • Institutionalising corporate support: BANAE is also instrumental in institutionalizing financial support / Scholarships to SC/ST students by ONGC and other companies.
  • Promotion & career growth: BANAE has made persistent efforts to represent issues of promotions in state and central government departments and several engineers could reach top positions rightfully due to them. Members reaching senior and top positions have brought laurels to the organization.
  • Seminars, workshops & awareness: Different units hold seminars, workshops, symposiums on technical as well social issues, sensitizing members about constitutional provisions for welfare of SC‑ST, OBC and Minority Communities.
  • Competitions & felicitations: BANAE branches regularly organize essay competitions, debate and elocution competitions. All units are always in forefront to support students appearing in Competitive Exams and also felicitate successful students.
  • Commemorative events: Programs to celebrate birth/death anniversaries of great leaders: Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Krantiba Phule, Savitribai Phule, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, Sant Kabir and Jogendranath Mandal are held regularly by BANAE units.
  • Distribution of “The Buddha and His Dhamma”: Nagpur unit uniquely distributes copies in Marathi, Hindi and English at highly subsidized rate on Dhamma Chakra Pravartan Day at Deeksha Bhumi every year at Nagpur.
  • Cultural Bhawan (Nagpur): BANAE Nagpur Unit constructed Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Sanskrutik Bhawan, a landmark structure in Uruvela Colony, Nagpur.
  • Dr. Ambedkar Center, Andheri (Mumbai): Construction of a six‑story building for library, reading room, skill development and hostel facility for visiting students/members is in progress under Prof. Abhay Bambole's guidance. Foundation and plinth work completed; expected completion May 2021 with members' support. Under construction
